Description
Gastec 332 Mercury Detection Kit
Gastec 332 Mercury Detection Kit This kit measures mercury content in soil or water. It takes about 10 minutes for common concentrations between 0.005 and 0.04 mg/L in water. The kit requires no battery or power supply.
Gastec 332 Mercury Detection Kit is a portable field analysis kit designed for on-site measurement of mercury (Hg) concentrations in water samples and soil extracts.
Similar in design to the Gastec 331 Arsenic Kit, the Model 332 avoids heavy laboratory equipment by using a chemical gas evolution reaction: mercury present in the sample is reduced into Mercury Vapor (Hgo), which is then quantified using a specialized colorimetric detector tube.
Core Operating Principle
Chemical Reduction: A measured volume of water or soil extract is placed inside the reaction vessel along with pre-measured reducing agents (typically tin(II) chloride or similar reducing salt).
Mercury Vapor Evolution: Dissolved mercury compounds (Hg2+ or organic forms) are chemically reduced to elemental mercury vapor (Hg0), which volatilizes into the headspace of the sealed bottle.
Colorimetric Detection: The liberated mercury vapor is drawn or allowed to pass through a high-sensitivity colorimetric detector tube (such as the Gastec 271/270 series). The chemical reagent in the tube undergoes a distinct color change proportional to the total mercury content.
