Brainchild IO-16DI Modbus IO Module These modules are used with HMI, PLC, or SCADA via Modbus RTU protocol. IO Studio is its PC software for setting communication. Data Acquisition Studio is its PC software for DAQ purposes.

Brainchild IO-16DI is a high-density, DIN-rail mounted Modbus RTU I/O expansion module that provides 16 isolated digital inputs. It allows PLCs, HMIs, paperless recorders, and SCADA systems to monitor discrete field signals (switches, proximity sensors, relay contacts, pulse outputs) over an RS-485 serial network.

Core Operational Functions

High-Density Discrete Monitoring: Acquires the ON/OFF state of up to 16 independent digital inputs over a single RS-485 two-wire serial interface.
Integrated High-Speed Counters: Each digital input channel doubles as a 32-bit pulse counter (up to 1 kHz input frequency), enabling totalization for flow meters, utility pulse meters, or part counts without needing dedicated counter cards.
Optical Isolation Protection: Features 1,000 V AC optical isolation between the input terminals, internal logic, and RS-485 bus to prevent ground loops and protect master controllers from electrical surges.
Modbus RTU Communication: Standard RS-485 serial interface supporting configurable baud rates (up to 115,200 bps) and DIP-switch or software-based slave node addressing (up to 127 modules per network).
On-Board LED Diagnostics: Includes status LEDs for power, RS-485 TX/RX activity, and individual channel logic states (1–16) for rapid visual field troubleshooting.
