Description

Gastec CM-9A Carbon monoxide detector

Gastec CM-9A is a compact, badge-type personal exposure monitor (dosimeter) designed for continuous ambient Carbon Monoxide (CO) detection in industrial workplaces, boiler rooms, and emergency response settings.

Unlike mechanical piston pumps or electronic sensors requiring batteries, the CM-9A operates passively via passive diffusion colorimetric chemistry, providing personal shift-long exposure monitoring or spot verification of carbon monoxide build-up.

Core Operating Principle

  1. Passive Gas Diffusion: Ambient carbon monoxide diffuses through a porous protective membrane on the front of the detector badge without requiring an air sampling pump.

  2. Visual Stain Comparison: The indicator element shifts color from light yellow/tan to dark gray/black. The cumulative exposure or concentration level is evaluated by comparing the color intensity against a calibrated color chart provided on the badge holder.

Features

  • Passive Colorimetric Diffusion: Monitors ambient carbon monoxide (CO) without pumps, electronics, or battery power.

  • Personal Breathing-Zone Design: Clip-on badge format for continuous lapel mounting and shift-long exposure tracking (10 to 500 ppm).

  • Visual Stain Progression: Direct color change from tan/yellow to dark gray/black provides immediate visual warning of toxic gas buildup.

Applications

  • Steel Mills & Foundries: Monitoring carbon monoxide exposure around blast furnaces, gas lines, and foundry cupolas.

  • Warehouses & Logistics: Personal exposure tracking for forklift operators working near propane or diesel combustion equipment.

  • Firefighting & HAZMAT Operations: Rapid screening for residual CO during post-fire overhaul and confined space inspections.
