Description
Gastec GOA-40D-5 Hand-Held Oxygen Detector
Gastec GOA-40D-5 Hand-Held Oxygen Detector is a lightweight, portable galvanic cell oxygen monitor engineered for fast, accurate oxygen concentration testing in industrial tanks, confined spaces, manholes, and processing plants. Designed by Gastec Corporation, the Gastec GOA-40D-5 Hand-Held Oxygen Detector features a remote sampling cable assembly, clear digital display, dual acoustic/visual alarm thresholds, and long battery life. Designed for occupational safety and environmental monitoring, it provides real-time oxygen deficiency and enrichment alarms to safeguard personnel entering hazardous environments.
Technical Overview & Operation
The Gastec GOA-40D-5 Hand-Held Oxygen Detector utilizes a high-stability galvanic cell sensor to determine ambient oxygen concentrations ($0.0\% \ \text{to} \ 25.0\% \ O_2$). Oxygen molecules diffusing through the sensor membrane react electrochemically to generate a small electric current proportional to partial oxygen pressure.
The internal microprocessor processes this current to display real-time percentage volume readouts on a clear backlit digital screen. The 5-meter extendable sensor cable enables safe pre-entry sampling inside underground vaults, storage tanks, and sewer shafts before workers step inside. If oxygen levels drop below safe thresholds (typically $< 19.5\%$ $O_2$) or exceed enrichment levels ($> 23.5\%$ $O_2$), high-decibel buzzers and LED warning indicators activate immediately.
