Honda HL2000 ultrasonic signal has characteristic that it reflects where the density changes. Submerged sensor transmit ultrasonic signal, then the signal reflects at the interface inside the tank. Some part of signal penetrate into the sludge and it also reflects at the rake or bottom of the tank.

Technical Overview & Operation
The Honda HL2000 Ultrasonic Level Meter operates on the acoustic time-of-flight (ToF) principle. Positioned above the maximum liquid surface, the high-output transducer emits ultrasonic pulses downward into the vessel space.
When the acoustic pulse strikes the fluid surface, it reflects back to the transducer face. The internal microprocessor calculates the exact transit time ($\Delta t$) of the returning echo and determines the surface distance using acoustic velocity ($v$). Integrated temperature sensors automatically compensate for air temperature variations within the vessel headspace. Advanced echo-processing algorithms filter out false reflections caused by internal tank agitators, structural supports, wall seams, or surface turbulence.
